Silverthin is pleased to offer standard, high quality mating pinions from stock for our ST and SK series slewing ring bearings. These pinions are made of AISI 4140 steel and are hardened to have a surface hardness of 55-60 HRC. See below for dimensional data.

Pinion/Gear Backlash
Backlash, sometimes referred to as play, is the amount of clearance between mating gears. (See Figure Below). For our purposes, the backlash would be between the slewing ring gear and mating pinion. This feature is often controlled by the center distance between the slewing ring and pinion, which can be either fixed or adjustable depending on the demands of the application.
